Visiting Scholar Grants
The goal of the program is to promote international exchange and cooperation between the United States and Vietnam, through educational exchanges. VEF Visiting Scholar grants cover the living expenses and professional development related expenses of postdoctoral students pursuing projects/courses of study in the STEMM fields at U.S. universities.

Applicant Eligibility
Grants cover living expenses and expenses related to the professional development of the Visiting Scholar while they are pursuing their approved project/course of study at a U.S. university.

Grants cover living expenses and expenses related to the professional development of the Visiting Scholar while they are pursuing their approved project/course of study at a U.S. university. Scholars must be Vietnamese citizens and must have completed a doctoral degree.
Credentials/Documentation
Applicants must submit an application and supporting documentation which illustrates their capability to succeed in a postdoctoral project/course of study at a U.S. university. They must provide a letter of support from their host university in the United States, as well as from their home university in Vietnam. A transcript and/or diploma from their doctoral institution is required.

Award Procedure
Applications are screened to ensure that they meet the minimum eligibility requirements. Eligible applications then undergo a technical review and finalists are interviewed in person in Vietnam by selected U.S. professors to assess their ability to succeed in graduate study at a U.S. university.

Demonstrated commitment to contribute to the educational and scientific development of Vietnam. 4. Supportiveness of the U.S. host institution and the applicant's home institution in Vietnam.
How may assistance be used?
Visiting Scholar grants are issued to outstanding Vietnamese scholars to pursue research or another career development project in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine (STEMM) fields at a U.S. university. The assistance is intended to cover the living expenses and professional development related expenses (allowable expenses are described in detail in the VEF Professional Development Grant policy) of the Visiting Scholar.

Range and Average of Financial Assistance
Financial assistance is limited to $2,300 per month as a stipend and up to $300 per month for professional development for no less than 5 months and for no more than 12 months. Funds may be spent as specified in the VEF Professional Development Grant policy. Funding may be provided for a project/course of study from 5 to 12 months. In FY 2015, up to 3 Visiting Scholar grants may be funded.
