Urban Archeology Corps

Project Title: Urban Archeology Corps (UAC) The Urban Archeology Corps provides youth with an immersive experience in archeology and cultural resource stewardship. The UAC engages partners and communities in the shared environmental stewardship of archeological resources. It promotes greater public and private participation in archeology while building resource stewardship ethics in youth. Products created by the UAC will be shared through community events and social media to increase public awareness, knowledge, and support for archeological resources and stewardship of the nations cultural and historical heritage. The UACs principal purpose is to support the Governments objective to provide opportunities for youth to learn about the cultural environment by spending time working on projects in National Parks. The project motivates its youth participants to become involved in the archeological protection of their communities and beyond. Youth employed in the UAC gain hands-on experience outside of the classroom in archeological projects by working in a variety of NPS divisional tasks. As a result, the UAC assists in the creation, promotion, facilitation, and/or improvement of the publics understanding of archeology and public lands as they relate to urban communities.
