Supporting Pueblo of Jemez involvement in Southern Rockies Landscape Conservation Cooperative

 

This is a notice of intent to award this Cooperative Agreement to Pueblo of Jemez Natural Resources Department, for the purpose of continued Jemez involvement in the Southern Rockies Landscape Conservation Cooperative (SRLCC) Steering Committee, and conduct a workshop to identify Jemez¿ Natural Resources Department (NRD) scientific information needs, data gaps and priority resources of concern specific to landscape-level needs. The tasks to be performed under this agreement are as follows: A) Provide the NRD with capacity assistance to support travel and participation costs associated with meetings and other technical assistance which will allow NRD personnel to participate in mutually agreed upon SRLCC activities. Subsequently, the SRLCC partnership can better leverage and collaborate on development of landscape-scaled projects and supporting or foundational information that will meet the needs of all stakeholders and landowners (e.g. land and water management agencies, tribes and public) and will minimize redundancy and conflict in resource conservation strategies. B) Cooperatively, the Service and NRD will conduct a workshop to identify the Pueblo¿s priority resources and science needs. Documentation of the Pueblo¿s science needs will assist the SRLCC in its efforts to integrate Tribal interests into the planning, research and implementation of landscape-level conservation goals. This Single Source Award is being made in accordance with Department of the Interior Policy 505 DM 2.14 B (1) Unique Qualifications - The applicant is uniquely qualified to perform the activity based upon a variety of demonstrable factors such as location, property ownership, voluntary support capacity, cost-sharing ability, if applicable, technical expertise, or other such unique qualifications., which allows for award without competition to an applicant. The Pueblo of Jemez, as a federally recognized Tribe is uniquely qualified to assess and identify issues, scientific information needs, data gaps and management considerations for culturally sensitive resources across both their current tribal lands and ancestral lands. Additionally, the Jemez are the appropriate entity to integrate this information into planning strategies for the Pueblo to address landscape scale stressors such as climate change on their culturally sensitive resources, as well as integrate this information into efforts by the SRLCC to develop landscape level adaptation strategies.
