OJJDP FY 2014 Studies Program on Ethnic Disparities in Juvenile Justice

 

Pursuant to Section 223(a)(22) of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974, as amended, participating states and territories must address specific delinquency prevention and system improvement efforts to reduce, without establishing or requiring numerical standards or quotas, the disproportionate number of minority juveniles who come into contact with the juvenile justice system. Disproportionate minority contact (DMC) exists if the rate with which specific minority group comes into contact with the juvenile justice system significantly differs from the rate of contact for non-Hispanic whites or other minority groups. To this end, OJJDP is seeking applications for funding under its Fiscal Year (FY) 2014 Studies Program on Ethnic Disparities in Juvenile Justice. This program will sponsor small studies and/or secondary analyses of existing data to provide objective, independent knowledge about the extent and impact of ethnic disparities effecting Hispanic/Latino youth’s contact with the juvenile justice system that includes arrests, referrals to court, diversion, charges filed, placement in secure juvenile detention facilities and adult jails and lockups, findings of delinquency, placement in secure juvenile correctional facilities, probation, and transfers to the adult criminal justice system. This program is authorized by 42 U.S.C. §§ 5631-5633 and pursuant to the Department of Justice Appropriations Act, 2014, Pub. L. No. 113-76, 128 Stat. 5, 60.

Office: Office of Justice Programs Grant 3 Eligible applicants are limited to states (including territories), units of local government (including federally recognized tribal governments, as determined by the Secretary of the Interior), nonprofit and for-profit organizations (including tribal nonprofit and for-profit organizations), and institutions of higher education (including tribal institutions of higher education). For-profit organizations must agree to forgo any profit or management fee. OJJDP welcomes applications that involve two or more entities; however, one eligible entity must be the applicant and the others must be proposed as subrecipients. The applicant must be the entity with primary responsibility for conducting and leading the project.
