Natural Resource Management Education and Training for High School Students near Fern Ridge Lake

 

The US Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District intends to enter into a cooperative agreement to provide high school students in the Willamette Valley opportunities for educational based restoration tasks on Corps project lands (primarily Fern Ridge Lake). Work will focus on restoration activities including plant production and planting as well as vegetation surveys and management. The intent of the educational and training opportunities is to provide students with empowerment through environmental education and work experience thereby fostering a sense of ownership over the land surrounding their community. Opportunities for local high school students will provide educational benefits and awareness to neighbors, frequent users, and future stewards of the site, and provide benefits to the community of which Fern Ridge is a part. Estimated annual funding is $5,000.00 per year. Actual funding will be determined as budgets allow through issuance of task orders. This cooperative agreement will be awarded pursuant to 33 USC 2339(a) – Assistance Programs. The location of work under this cooperative agreement will be at or near Fern Ridge Lake.
