Award Procedure
Grants and agreements will generally be competitive and merit-based. Projects may be awarded through either the Washington office or Forest Service Regions. Subawards may be used by recipients for individual firewood bank programs.

From 30 to 60 days. Requests for extension must be submitted to the Program Manager 60 days prior. Form SF-424 must be included in the request.
How are proposals selected?
Financial grants and cooperative agreements are approved on the basis of a review and are based on merits of the project as evaluated by a panel of Federal experts or their designees.
How may assistance be used?
• Identification of existing firewood banks, development of educational programs and webinars on safe, effective, and efficient operation of firewood banks and wood stoves/appliance.
• Conduct a national workshop on firewood banks.
• Small equipment or supply purchases such as chain saws, wood splitters or firewood processors.
• Develop and conduct local firewood kiln drying demonstrations or capacity, match funding for purchasing dry firewood from existing producers, or other unique leverage to increase the availability and use of wood for these programs.
• Development or expansion of new firewood banks that support local forest harvesting in places without adequate harvest or processing organizations.
• Leverage or supply feedstock to firewood banks.
• Provide funding for transportation of materials removed through forest restoration projects.
