Who is eligible to apply/benefit from this assistance?
Applicant Eligibility
Eligible applicants are accredited schools of public health or schools of medicine or osteopathic medicine; an accredited public or private non-profit hospital; a State, local or tribal health department; or a consortium or 2 or more entities as described in paragraphs (1) through (3) of the legislative authority. Residency programs must be accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). Applications for the IMR program must be submitted by the accredited residency program who is the primary applicant responsible for carrying out the project. Eligible applicants for the NCCIM are accredited school of public health, school of medicine or osteopathic medicine; an accredited public or private non-profit, hospital; State, local, or Tribal health department; or a consortium of two or more of these entities that can provide specialized technical assistance on a national basis to grantees of the Integrative Medicine Residency (IMR) program; demonstrate expertise in the field of evidence-based complementary and alternative medicine treatment modalities.
Beneficiary Eligibility
Eligible participants must be U.S. citizens, noncitizen nationals, and those foreign nationals who possess a visa permitting permanent residence in the United States; and must be enrolled in an ACGME or AOA accredited/approved graduate medical education program.
Credentials/Documentation
A letter of accreditation from the appropriate body must be included in the application to indicate the program status. Institutional applicants are an accredited school of public health or school of medicine or osteopathic medicine; an accredited public or private non-profit hospital; a State, local or tribal health department; or a consortium or two or more entities described in paragraphs (1) through (3). Residency programs must be accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) in preventive medicine Applicants should review the individual HRSA funding opportunity announcement issued under this CFDA program for any required proof or certifications which must be submitted prior to or simultaneous with submission of an application package. Residents must have completed a doctoral degree in medicine (M.D.) or osteopathic medicine (D.O.) prior to admission to an accredited a residency program. Application for admission into a residency program must be made directly with the institution. OMB Circular No. A-87 applies to this program.

Award Procedure
All qualified applications will be forwarded to an objective review committee. How are proposals selected?
Competing applications are reviewed by a team of objective reviewers who offer technical merit recommendations based on the potential effectiveness of the proposed project in carrying out the training purposes of Title VII of the Public Health Service Act, Section 765, 42 U.S.C., 295 and Section 768, 42 U.S.C. 295c, as amended by section 5206 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, (Pub. L. 111-148). Approval of any application will be based on an analysis of the following factors: responsiveness to the funding opportunity announcement, need and rationale, project plan, project management, fiscal plan, project effectiveness. Applications must demonstrate applicant’s ability to develop competency-based curricula in integrative medicine to advance the field of integrative medicine and have potential for replication at other residency programs. Applicants must also demonstrate the capacity to provide technical assistance, data collection, and evaluation activities related to the IMR program grantees.
How may assistance be used?
Funds can be used to incorporate competency-based integrative medicine curricula in graduate medical education and for the establishment of a national coordinating center for Integrative Medicine to provide technical assistance to Integrative Medicine Residency (IMR) programs. Grants may not be used to support trainee costs or for construction or for the provision of direct patient services. The Integrative Medicine Residency Program awards can only be made to graduate medical education programs accredited by the ACGME or the AOA. It is estimated that $2,200,000 will be available in Fiscal Year 2012 to incorporate competency-based integrative medicine curricula into eligible graduate medical education programs. It is estimated that $1,000,000 will be available for the establishment of the national coordinating center for integrative medicine.

Auditing
In accordance with the provisions of OMB Circular No. A-133 (Revised, June 27, 2003), "Audits of States, Local Governments, and Non-Profit Organizations," nonfederal entities that expend financial assistance of $500,000 or more in Federal awards will have a single or a program-specific audit conducted for that year. Nonfederal entities that expend less than $500,000 a year in Federal awards are exempt from Federal audit requirements for that year, except as noted in Circular No. A-133.
Records
Grantees are required to maintain grant accounting records three years after the date they submit the FSR. If any litigation, claim, negotiation, audit or other action involving the award has been started before the expiration of the three-year period, the records shall be retained until completion of the action and resolution of all issues which arise from it, or until the end of the regular three-year period, whichever is later.

Approximately $2,000,000 is available to award an estimated 16 IMR program grants to incorporate competency-based integrative medicine curricula in graduate medical education. The IMR program grants have a minimum budget of $100,000 and a maximum of $150,000; the estimated average budget is $125,000. The project period is two years with a one-year budget period. Approximately $1,000,000 is available to fund a cooperative agreement for establishing a national coordinating center for integrative medicine to provide technical assistance, data collection, and evaluation of the IMR program grantees.
