IIS Sentinel Site Pandemic Preparedness and Response Planning

Purpose: As a critical component of the nationÂ’s pandemic response plan, the IIS Sentinel Sites would be called upon to report vaccination of both children and adults. In an effort to increase pandemic preparedness and readiness for a potential pandemic influenza vaccination campaign, funds will be provided to increase capacity in several areas. Existing Sentinel Sites who receive funding will work to increase vaccine providers of adults enrolled and submitting immunizations to the IIS, and enable the sites to collect and report data on vaccine antigen and adjuvant. The objectives of the supplemental funds provided to IIS Sentinel Site participants will assist the sites to: a. Enhance the capture of vaccinations among adults in their state and exchange data with other health IT systems to facilitate this process. Ensure IIS is scalable to support increased data submissions and users of the system. b. Prepare IIS to document administration of an adjuvant in addition to the vaccine antigen. c. Analyze and report larger volumes of immunization data to CDC more frequently.
