GOLDEN EAGLE POPULATION ESTIMATION

The Western Golden Eagle Team proposes to partners with scientists at Humboldt State University to develop estimates of golden eagle populations in the western United States. Our estimates will be based on: 1) Species distributional models developed at the scale of large landscapes (CEC Level III Ecoregions). Outputs will be mapped as Relative Habitat Suitability (RHS) 2) Ecoregion-specific data on territory spacing, home range size, and local densities. This information is being obtained from intensive study areas across the golden eagles western range. 3) Analyses of resource availability (RHS values from SDMs) at known golden eagle territories.
