REQUEST FOR INFORMATION FOR POTENTIAL PROJECT TO BE INITIATED THROUGH Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial Funding Opportunity Number: FY2014-LIBO-YII-0001 Park: Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, 3027 E South St., Lincoln City, IN 57552 Project title: 2014 Youth Interns: Interpretation Proposed Project Date: 05/12/2014 – 08/03/2014 Estimated funding available: $8,715 Number of Positions Available: 2 Summary: These two (2) positions will work at the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial performing a number of natural and cultural interpretation activities, including traditional interpretation at the Memorial Visitor Center and surrounding grounds. Interns will also conduct tours, conduct visitor orientations, show films, assist at information desk, and collect entrance fees. Interns will also develop and implement three-to- five Junior Ranger Day programs. Background: Lincoln Boyhood is located in southern Indiana at Lincoln City. It is 42 miles east of Evansville, Indiana. The Memorial is a 200-acre wooded historical park adjacent to the 1,747-acre Lincoln State Park. The Memorial is in a rural area, but shopping facilities, churches, doctors, hospitals, universities, and vocational colleges are in the immediate vicinity. Temperatures range from winter lows in the teens to 20's to summer highs in the 90s. Reasonable rental housing is available within the commuting area. Possible Projects and Work Activities for 2014: • Perform both natural and cultural interpretation services including traditional historical interpretation at the Memorial Visitor Center and surrounding formal grounds. • Provide interpretive and visitor services including roving contacts with visitors, conducting tours, orientation presentations, film showings, and information desk services. • Present on-site programs to visitors at the Memorial Visitor Center Memorial grounds and at park locations as assigned. • Collect entrance fees and conduct Eastern National sales. • Development and manage 3-5 Junior Ranger Day programs that will include hands-on activities for children ages 6-12. Most contacts are with the general public and other park staff. Occasional contacts are made with school teachers, representatives of Lincoln State Park and the National Park Service. Contacts are made to facilitate effective park operations and to provide visitors with a safe, meaningful and enjoyable visit and to interpret the park history and to provide visitor services. The work can be physically demanding, requiring long periods of standing, walking, lifting moderately heavy items and working in weather extremes. Work is performed indoors and outdoors, inside the visitor center or outside at the living historical farm. Work on weekends and holidays required. Include your name, organization, and contact information, a brief description of the organization and mission, as well as a description of relevant qualifications and experience with recruiting and placement of youth interns, past projects, and staff, faculty, or students who would be available to work on the project. In conjunction with the Statement of Information you are also required to submit a preliminary bid. The Statement of Information and preliminary bid will be reviewed by the NPS in order determine the organization best suited to provide services for this specific project. Final costs and budget will be negotiated following selection of a recipient.
