Extension Education and Decision Support for Southern Rockies Landscape Conservation Cooperative and Colorado Plateau Rapid Ecoregional Assessment.

 

The tasks to be performed under this agreement are as follows: 1. The FWS will: Provide initial funding in the amount of $55,700; subsequent funds in future years are subject to availability. Play and active role in coordinating with BLM, SRLCC Science Coordinator, and the Principal Investigator in identification of tasks, products and overall data and science delivery strategies. Participate with BLM, SRLCC Science Coordinator, and Principle Investigator to develop a Post Doc position description, performance plans and evaluations. Participate with BLM, SRLCC Science Coordinator, and the Principal Investigator on a selection committee for Post Doc candidates. Consistently engage with all partners through the life of this agreement to evaluate performance and products from Post Doc. 2. Utah State University through the Utah Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (UTCFWRU) will: Facilitate a Post Doc position and undergraduate level Decision Support Specialist at the UTCFWRU, located in the Department of Wildland Resources, Utah State University, Logan. Incumbent would work under joint direction of the SRLCC Science Coordinator, Utah BLM Supervisory Natural Resource Specialist, and the Principal Investigator or designees. The Post Doc will be jointly funded by BLM and FWS, with support provided by the UTCFWRU. The UTCFWRU will foster collaboration with the Quinney College of Natural Resources GIS lab, Utah State University. Post Doc will facilitate the development of interactive decision support tools based on multiple data types and model outputs: development, maintenance, and delivery of server-based geospatial tools based on the science and expert knowledge of geographic information, relational databases, and computer networks. The initial task of this position would be to assist two or three entities (e.g., Utah Division of Wildlife, BLM, Forest Service, Tribe, etc.) with analysis of CPREA data and subsequent development of decision support to connect the REA data sets to their specific resources, landscapes, and management strategies. Provide technical support to entities, such as BLM and UDWR, for specific projects using REA data for analysis and decision making. Examples include the Utah Watershed Restoration Initiative and the Moab Master Leasing Plan. Develop applications, protocols, and procedures for dissemination of LCC data in a variety of formats including tabular and spatial files, maps, CDs and web-based data sets to ensure data are readily available to LCC staff and stakeholders. Undergraduate Decision Support Specialist will provide technical support to the Post Doc in the form of simple models, GIS support, statistical analyses, and data access as requested.
