This is an announcement for issuing a single source financial assistance award to the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences (IMCS), Rutgers University (Cooperator). This falls under Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit 501819J111. This announcement is for notification purposes only. The intent of the award is to produce a series of reports on shoreline change, using data recorded on standard, seasonal surveys at eleven (11) affiliated refuges in Region 5, US Fish and Wildlife Service (see Table 1). This reporting is directed toward the timely communication of the impacts and succeeding shoreline position changes associated with Superstorm Sandy. All of the refuges had previously initiated a program of systematic, shoreline monitoring using a standard protocol (Psuty et al. 2010; Psuty et al. 2012), with technical assistance and guidance from the Cooperator. Thus, there is the opportunity to produce a series of reports that describe the dimensions and vectors of change and elements of post-storm recovery contained in the data records. Reports describing these changes are the primary focus of this award. This award also provides for a continuation of training, site assessments, and technical assistance associated with U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service coastal monitoring program in Region 5. A further objective is to expand the shoreline monitoring program to additional refuges, and to assist in the development of 2-D geomorphological transects in cooperating refuges.
