The Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area (XRDS) was authorized in 2006 by P.L. 109-338 to (a) preserve and protect cultural, historic, and natural resources of the Revolutionary War period in the State of New Jersey; and (b) bring recognition to those resources for the educational and recreational benefit of the present and future generations of citizens of the United States. The objectives of the XRDS NHA include assisting communities, organizations, and citizens in the State of New Jersey in preserving the special historic identity of the State; and the importance of the State to the United States; to foster a close working relationship among all levels of government, the private sector, and local communities in the State; to provide for management, preservation, protection, and interpretation of the cultural, historic, and natural resources of the State for educational and inspirational benefit of future generations; and to strengthen the value of Morristown National Historic Park as an asset to the State by establishing a network of related historic resources, protected landscapes, educational opportunities, and events depicting the landscape of the State of New Jersey during the American Revolution; and establishing partnerships among Morristown National Historic Park and other public and privately owned resources in the Heritage Area that represent the strategic fulcrum of the American Revolution.
