Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Great Lakes Northern Forest

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Fort Collins Science Center (FORT) is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner to develop and document best practices for a universal clearing house that will receive live-stream doppler and GPS wildlife tracking data. The FORT is cooperating with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and wants to include the CESU to develop an improved data management system for wildlife tracking data that has application for any wildlife species. A universal clearing house is a core component for harvesting, processing, providing quality control, and providing secondary storage for wildlife species tracking data (primary storage will be in the Landscape Conservation Management and Analysis Portal [LC MAP] which is compliant with the Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002 [FISMA]). This initial project deals specifically with the tracking and management of California condors, but the intent is to develop an efficient data management system that will be applicable for tracking data for any wildlife species.
