CESU, CCS, BLM Arizona, Relict Leopard Frog Conservation Implementation

 

A. Project Background Information: The Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Units (CESU) Network is a national consortium of federal agencies, academic institutions, tribal, state, and local governments, nongovernmental conservation organizations (300 partners). The Great Basin Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (GBCESU) is a cooperative network, transcending political and institutional boundaries, which creates innovative opportunities for research, education, and technical assistance in support of the management and stewardship by partner agencies of the Great Basin natural, cultural, and social resources. The GBCESU has a unique collaborative relationship with research scientists, end users of research products, the public, and educators who are trained to bridge the gap between researchers, science users and educators. Master agreement number is BLM-CA-2011-006 Arizona BLM desires to enter into new agreement with a (GBCESU) University. The Relict Leopard Frog Conservation Agreement and Strategy was completed and began implementation in 2005. This is a multi-state, regional collaborative effort involving Federal, State and local government agencies as well as universities. This program is being specifically undertaken to improve the conservation status of the Relict Leopard Frog To date, this partnership has resulted in the captive rearing, the reintroduction and establishment of several populations of Relict Leopard Frogs and a better understanding of the status of the species. B. Project Objective: The principal purpose and objectives are to build and maintain an effective and efficient partnership with a common goal of conservation of the Relict Leopard Frog through implementation of the Conservation Agreement and Strategy for the RLF. This collaborative effort will result in reestablishment and improved conservation status of a species once thought to be extinct. The restoration of biodiversity in the region will benefit the overall health of the public land resources for the enjoyment of the American people.
