BLM OR-WA Floristic Survey and Vegetative Community Mapping, Watmough Bay-Iceberg Point Area of Critical Environmental Concern, Spokane District
This program supports inventory and documentation of existing vegetative communities to assess the original, and progressive, state of the landscape in order to assess how areas of critical environmental concern (ACEC) have evolved over the past 20+ years. Dr. Wendy Anderson of Stetson University, along with her students, has been conducting similar work on the San Juan Islands for the last five (5) years on local-area public lands managed by several different organizations, including the BLM. This project supports the legislative directive for new National Monuments under the FLPMA authority, to generate baseline data for the resources' flora and fauna used to make science-based decisions.
