BLM OR-WA Coos Bay Spotted Owl Survey and Radio Tracking, Coos Bay District, Oregon

This project includes two components; northern spotted owl (NSO) protocol surveys and radio tracking of spotted and barred owls (BAOW). Twenty previously documented northern spotted owl home-ranges will be surveyed using current protocol standards to provide updated information on owl presence and breeding status. An additional ten sites will be surveyed with the objective of capturing both NSO and BAOW to place radio transmitters on them for tracking habitat use. Protocol surveys will take place over a two year period and radio tracking will take place over a three year period. The project will support further understanding and modeling of preferred northern spotted owl and barred owl habitats. Depending on the need for understory data to further refine habitat paramaters and available funds, a third task to include understory vegetation data collection may be added to this project through a modification to this agreement.
