BLM CA Great Basin _ Modoc Plateau Rock Art Recordation & Interpretation
The purpose of this assistance agreement is for inventory, protection, and management of rock art sites in the northwestern Great Basin and adjacent areas. Rock art sites are cultural sites that contain petroglyphs and/or pictographs. In the northwestern Great Basin, these sites can range from small sites to extremely large, complex sites that are difficult and time-consuming to record. Consequently, past documentation of these large rock art sites is typically incomplete and unsuitable for the proper management of the site. In addition, these fragile sites are in danger of intentional or unintentional vandalism by the public. Public outreach and education has proven an effective way to protect these important sites.
