Assessment of Spawning Horseshoe Crabs within Mid-Atlantic Coastal NPS Units

This is not a request for applications, this is just an announcement that NPS is continuing its already existing task agreement with URI for their work with the Assessment of Spawning Horseshoe Crabs within Mid-Atlantic Coastal NPS Units. Specifically, the recipient will: • Determine horseshoe crab egg densities as well as geomorphology and geochemical characteristics for spawning beaches. • Track movement patterns of horseshoe crabs using acoustic transmitters within Great South Bay and Jamaica Bay to evaluate the extent of spawning site fidelity at Fire Island National Seashore and Gateway National Recreation Area. • Develop citizen science programs to conduct annual spawning surveys at each park, to provide an opportunity to engage visitors and partners in stewardship of NPS marine resources, and to provide for long-term horseshoe crab monitoring.
