This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service (NPS), intention to fund the following project with University of Alaska Fairbanks under a Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) program. CESUs are partnerships that provide research, technical assistance, and education. The project intended award for 2012 is $129,895.00. This is a continuation of an existing agreement, number J9796100057 ending on September 30, 2013. • Continuation - The activity to be funded is necessary to the satisfactory completion of, or is a continuation of an activity presently being funded, and for which competition would have a significant adverse effect on the continuity or completion of the activity. The University of Alaska Museum of the North (UAMN) will be working on year 3 of a 5 year agreement awarded under J9796100057. This National Park Service (NPS) funded 5-year project focuses on archeological survey and cultural resource inventory to establish the prehistory of the Chignik-Meshik Rivers region. Together with an emerging record of volcanism and environmental change, archaeological data will help to illustrate a comprehensive picture of human activity in the central Alaska Peninsula with emphasis on the Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve (ANIA). The partner will: A. Develop work plan and budget for 2013 laboratory analysis of archaeological collections. B. Contribute to village Council and/or Corporation meetings, and/or schools visits, as needed. C. Conduct requisite post-field data-management (Alaska Heritage Resource Survey [AHRS] cards, NPS Archaeological Sites Management Information System [ASMIS] records, Geographic Information Systems [GIS]-based site maps and geodatabase components, photo-logs, artifact- catalogs, and field-notes). D. Prepare (clean, label, package, and catalog) artifacts and samples for storage and future analysis. E. Develop a Collections Management Plan for artifacts, samples, and archives collected from and /or pertaining to work conducted on NPS land. F. Collect geological samples from natural deposits of tool-quality igneous raw materials.
